Research Scroll
A compilation of project research and development sketches on 15 yards of 12"W tracing paper. This scroll served as a physical space to sketch, tape, and record any thoughts and research that was relevant to the progression of the project. Below I have included snippets from the scroll to show my design thinking process as well as the passion and love I have for research.

Concept
Through the use of solely bio-based materials and a spotlight on mycelium, the designer of Growing Together experiments with the possibility of creating structures that give back to the earth. This project has a focus on sustainability, and how in a world where nothing is permanent, we need to start thinking about how we can better the temporary through carbon-neutral, and biodegradable architecture + interiors.
Site Location
Northport, Michigan
The proposed location on the site is centered around a 26’ maple tree. The tree will help support the structure of the design and is a reminder that humans and plants both share a core commonality and that is life.

A space made entirely of biodegradable materials
Material description from left to right:
1. Mycelium: carbon sequestering, compostable biodegradable, and non-toxic. Provides good insulating, acoustic, and fire performance
2. Maple wood: sourced from Northern Building supply in Traverse City, MI. FSC certified wood grown in locally managed forests. untreated, strong, recyclable.
3. Myco flooring: mycelium composite core, coated with bio-based resins. made of 90 % recycled content. biodegradable, carbon-neutral, water-resistant.
4. Jute rope: biodegradable, strong tensile properties, compostable and long-lasting, low maintenance cultivation, cost-effective, and carbon sequestering.
5. Cotton canvas: eco-based, extremely durable, easily made waterproof, wind-resistant,tear-resistant, biodegradable, and non-toxic.

Exploded Axonometric

Floor Plan
As you enter, you come unknowing, what is on the inside. This meditation space allows for up to 12 people to comfortably meditate, reflect and decompress from reality. There are both high and low seating options depending on the preferred meditation style.
Models
Both models are made to scale to represent parts of the built interior. One model is made to represent a part of a mycelium panel exterior stud wall. The other model is a mycelium pendant lamp. Both models were constructed out of mycelium I grew and molded myself.
